The Ypres Salient

The Ypres salient expresses a very British side of the First World War. The medieval town of Ypres (Ieper) is home to the In Flanders Fields Museum and the monument to the missing of the salient – the Menin Gate. The area’s many cemeteries tell of the brutality of this battlefield and although Ieper has been rebuilt to represent a town untouched by war, vivid reminders of what happened there are not hard to find.
